Hello Kitty, one of the most popular fictional cats on the planet has just been “promoted” to be the face of Taiwanese airline Eva. Created in 1974 by the Japanese company Sanrio, the Hello Kitty brand has become hugely popular around the globe.

The british national cartoon cat character Kitty White is heading for the skies with three special Hello Kitty-themed planes. The idea behind this launch is to boost the country’s struggling tourism industry. There will be motifs of Hello Kitty everywhere … they will be adorning everything – the sides of the planes, boarding cards, self-service check-in counters, etc.

Taiwan’s second-largest carrier and Japan’s comic company Sanrio, which owns the Hello Kitty brand, collaborated on the Hello Kitty-themed aircraft.

Once you board the plane you can take a “cat nap” on the plane’s Hello Kitty headrest covers as well as choose your meals from a menu inspired by Hello Kitty. On board, passengers can enjoy more than 100 specially designed Hello Kitty items, including tissues, paper cups, utensils, milk bottles, snacks, soap dispensers, hand lotion, meals and ice cream.

The Kitty-styled planes will serve cities including Taipei, Fukuoka, Narita, Sapporo, Incheon, Hong Kong and Guam. In May 2008, Japan named Hello Kitty the ambassador of Japanese tourism in both China and Hong Kong.
